Peyto Lake and Mount Patterson, Banff NP, Albeta

Peyto Lake (pronounced PEE-toh) is the most famous lake in Banff National Park you’ve probably never heard of before. It’s a turquoise blue glacier-fed lake 40km north of Lake Louise and a popular stop on the famous Icefields Parkway. The brilliant display of blue is fed by the Peyto Glacier high above the lake and part of the Wapta Icefield. As of 2021, the Peyto Lake parking lot, walking path, bow summit, and viewpoint are closed for renovation – millions of visitors every year have left their “footprints”.
